In “normal” dating life we can be easily distracted by clothes, fancy cars, selfie filters – but what happens if we take that all away? Maybe we could fall in love with someone for who they REALLY are.
The new series NAKED AND AFRAID OF LOVE is stripping dating and relationships down to their most primal level. The show sets out to uncover what happens when 16 complete strangers — 8 single women and 8 single men — attempt to find true love while working together to survive the elements and each other, in an unforgettable island paradise.
NAKED AND AFRAID OF LOVE will be available across Discovery platforms later this year.
In Naked And Afraid Of Love, 16 single people are dropped in the middle of nowhere — conveniently by a beach, of course — in male-female pairs. The first time these pairs meet each other, they’re both completely naked.
Throughout most of the first episode, the pairs assess each other, and all of them try to “maintain eye contact” instead of looking at each other’s equipment. They’re not always successful, though. For instance, a firefighter from Brooklyn named Barak, has an “accidental erection” (which is also the name of the episode) when he sees the super-confident Lauren for the first time.
Each pair spends their first day figuring out how to build a fire and finish a shelter that is partially constructed for them. In almost all the cases, there’s at least some chemistry. During the second or third day, however, much of the chemistry wears off when hunger and other discomforts set in. That’s when the pairs are told (er, we mean “decide”) to move on.
At that point, the couples start finding each other, and new attractions are built. Lauren, who’s had enough of Barak, gets attracted to Michael, a former NAA contestant, when she and Barak run into Michael and Chrystal, a cute photographer. Dive expert Rachel, who’s had her fill of dim surfer dude David, swim and surf over to where Steffen and Arielle are trying to make a fish trap, and new sparks fly. But how long will any of these couples last?
Believe it or not, Naked And Afraid Of Love isn’t the first naked dating show we’ve seen. VH1 had a show called Dating Naked on from 2014-16 that we admittedly watched far too much of when it aired. But this takes that concept to a different level, combining a dating show like Bachelor in Paradise with, well, Naked And Afraid.
Bennett is 28 years old and works as a part-time youth soccer coach and bartender. Hailing from South Carolina, he’s looking for a girl who’s adventurous and isn’t too worried about what other people think.
Britt is a 32-year-old who grew up in Charlotte, NC and is currently living in Seattle, WA where she works as an HR professional. She is ready to strip down to her most authentic self. She has an extremely outgoing personality and will call it like she sees it. She loves travel and the outdoors and is looking for someone who will join her in all her spontaneous adventures.
Candice is a 29-year-old former Miss Hawaii and current PhD student from Honolulu, Hawaii. She’s teaching undergrads Psychology as a graduate teaching assistant and always taking care of others trying to make a difference and a positive impact on the world with her love and is ready to find someone who will care for her and make her feel loved.
Cassalei is a 26-year-old computer engineering student from LA. She is looking for someone to have a genuine connection with who is honest and open. She is not looking for something casual.
Chelsea is a 27-year-old photographer from Houston, Texas. After a series of failed relationships, Chelsea is looking for a Hercules who will treat her with respect. She will not put up with being someone’s backup.
Crystal is a 29-year-old life coach from Minneapolis, MN. Crystal is not one to settle and is looking for someone who is spiritual and adventurous. She is extremely kind, outgoing, and is ready to meet someone who wants to explore the world with her.
David is a 33-year-old surf instructor from San Diego, CA. He describes himself as a mellow guy with a bit of a Peter Pan complex who loves his mom. David is ready to ride this experience out like a wave and see what happens.
Jay is a 25-year-old delivery man from Maryland. Perceived by many to be in an f-boy stage, he’s on a self-development journey and ready to find the one to tame him… that is, if he can be tamed.
Michael is a 31-year-old strength and conditioning coach from Alberta, Canada. A Naked and Afraid alum, Michael says dating is hard because no one can keep up with his nomadic lifestyle.
Nelson is a 28-year-old video game developer from Philadelphia, PA. He loves to make jokes and have fun, but when it’s time to get down to business, he is the leader. He enjoys his freedom as a single man, but is ready to find love and excited to meet a potential partner.
Rachel is a 29-year-old social media marketer from Oahu, HI. Rachel is an accomplished freediver who can dive 40 meters down on a single breath. She is ready to put herself out there and be vulnerable in hopes of finding love.
Stefen is a 31-year-old model and part-time server from Brooklyn, NY. After a five-year relationship ended badly, Stefen is back to feeling confident, loving himself, and ready to play the field in hopes of finding love.
Arielle is a 30-year-old property manager from Detroit, MI. She’s looking for someone who will be attentive to her and her needs. She knows what she wants and has no problem letting you know how she feels.
Barak is a 33-year-old firefighter from Brooklyn, NY. He’s all about adventures and ready to get out of his comfort zone. The key to a relationship, according to Barak, is all about being open and vulnerable.
A 32-year-old house flipper from South Carolina, Ben describes himself as a stereotypical rugged alpha male. Ben loves being his own boss and the free time it affords him to go on adventures, which mainly includes hunting.
