Celebrity Race Across the World season 01 is the first season of the new six-part series for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, where four celebrities and their family partners travel across 24 countries and over 10,000 km, without using any air travel or modern-day conveniences. The celebrities are Alex Beresford and his dad Noel, Mel Blatt and her mum Helene, Harry Judd and his mum Emma, and Billy Monger and his sister Bonny. The series follows their journey from Marrakech, Morocco, to Tromsø, Norway, as they race through various landscapes and cultures, while earning money by working odd jobs and relying on the kindness of strangers.
The series is hosted by Alex Beresford, who is a broadcaster and adventurer. The series is produced by Studio Lambert, the same company behind the BAFTA Award-winning format Race Across the World. The series is executive produced by Lucy Shepherd, Tim Harcourt, Jo Harcourt-Smith, Mark Saben, Lucy Curtis, Maria Kennedy, and Kezia Walker.
The series aims to give a unique insight into the celebrities and their relationships with their travelling companions. It also showcases the diversity and beauty of different countries and regions around the world.
The series premiered on August 1, 2023, on BBC One at 9 pm. Each episode consists of a main challenge, a nomination process, and an elimination round. The contestants are divided into three teams of eight, each with two challenge veterans and six celebrities. The winning team of each main challenge is immune from elimination and nominates one male and one female contestant to potentially compete in the elimination round. The losing teams vote for one contestant of either gender to potentially compete in the elimination round. The Hopper randomly selects one contestant who received votes to compete in the elimination round against the nominee of the same gender. The loser of the elimination round is eliminated from the game, while the winner stays in the game 1.
The season also features some twists and nods to previous seasons of Celebrity Race Across the World and other versions of Race Across the World , such as the return of the Golden Power of Veto, the Double Eviction, and the Battle Back competition. The season also introduces some new twists, such as the Big Brother Vault, where contestants can find hidden advantages or punishments, and the Big Brother Roulette , where a random contestant can change one of the nominations before the eviction vote .
