BattleBots Season 09 Episode 01 Description
The first episode of BattleBots Season 9 is titled “Let The Slugfests Begin!” and it aired on June 7, 2019 on Discovery Channel. In this episode, the 68 heavyweight robots that are competing for the title of BattleBots World Champion are introduced and they have to face their first fights. The episode features four fights between two robots each, with the winners earning one point and moving up in the rankings. The fights are as follows:
- Bite Force vs. Yeti: Bite Force is the defending champion and a powerful vertical spinner. Yeti is a fan-favorite and a ferocious drum spinner. The fight is a close and intense one, with both robots exchanging hits and sparks. Bite Force manages to damage Yeti’s wheels and weapon, while Yeti rips off Bite Force’s front wedge. The fight goes to the judges, who give a unanimous decision to Bite Force.
- Black Dragon vs. Bloodsport: Black Dragon is a newcomer from Brazil and a compact eggbeater spinner. Bloodsport is also a newcomer and a massive horizontal bar spinner. The fight is a short and explosive one, with Bloodsport delivering a huge hit to Black Dragon that sends both robots flying across the arena. Black Dragon lands upside down and cannot self-right, while Bloodsport loses its weapon but survives. Bloodsport wins by knockout.
- Tombstone vs. Lock-Jaw: Tombstone is the former champion and the most feared horizontal spinner in the competition. Lock-Jaw is a veteran and a versatile grappler with lifting forks. The fight is a brutal and destructive one, with Tombstone tearing apart Lock-Jaw’s armor and wheels, while Lock-Jaw tries to push and control Tombstone. Tombstone eventually disables Lock-Jaw’s drive and weapon, leaving it immobile. Tombstone wins by knockout.
- Whiplash vs. Minotaur: Whiplash is a rising star and a hybrid of a vertical spinner and a lifter. Minotaur is a legend from Brazil and a devastating drum spinner. The fight is a fast and furious one, with Whiplash using its speed and agility to dodge Minotaur’s attacks and flip it over several times. Whiplash also lands some hits with its spinner, while Minotaur struggles to get its weapon up to speed. The fight goes to the judges, who give a split decision to Whiplash.

BattleBots Show Description
BattleBots is a reimagined take on the killer robot combat sport, from Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original BattleBots franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson. The homemade robots are back for season two, where they will battle against each other in a single elimination tournament until there is one champion. The ten episode series will feature next generation robots – bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. The show will continue to emphasize the design and build elements of each robot, the bot builder backstories, their intense pursuit of the championship and the spectacle of the event. While there’s only one weight class, there are a huge variety of deadly weapons. Forty-eight robots will enter, but in the end, only one will win the final trophy.
